The more they stay the same. Or is it that we roam around in circles? I find as we prepare the horizontal condo/studio on wheels to leave Florida that I am back tracking to my beginnings in Florida. I am placing my art in the very places I started out when I first came here...must mean they are the best! You can find my art work back in the gallery at Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs, Florida. Still one of my favorite places in Florida.
The Park is located on the Suwannee River, of course, the one Stephen Foster wrote the Song about. There is a museum there and a bell tower that plays his songs on the hour. But it is so much more to me. It is in the park and White Springs where the Suwannee Valley Plein-air Painters paint out on frequent Wednesdays. The group founded by artist John Larner has been a major part of my art in Florida. Every Wednesday the loosely organized group paints out in a different location somewhere between Live Oak and Lake City where most of we artists are from. John Larner taught me so much about painting the local color of Florida. I needed new tubes of paint ...the sky was a different blue and therefore all the greens turned out different!Water has been a challenge for me which I still have not mastered but he has helped and encouraged. The Suwannee is a dark brown or black water due to all the pine trees in the area turning it to tea! And the ocean still
changes and moves to much for me to capture to my satisfaction...after all I came from a land locked area, Cincinnati,Ohio.
